my opinion about ( Brand Name Dropper)

my opinion about ( Think Globally, Upload Locally )

(Think globally, Upload Locally) the title its self is interesting and attractive. The internet is easily accessible by everyone around the world, and for that it has positive and negative impacts. Some negative impacts about the web is that anyone could upload anything, and that always raises the question of how reliable is the source of information, other negative aspect is that websites took the place of books, nowadays teenagers prefer to use the internet rather than read a book. Using the internet properly is very hard, because it is filled with negative rumors, hocks, and political jocks that could make huge misunderstandings even between countries. moreover, its not just for The internet but also in Design. whenever a designer works on something he should consider the Glob outside while thinking and designing, no one knows where can his designs reach. on the other hand, sometimes Designs or artwork cannot be viewed or shown outside a specific country or city because no one would understand it or get it, like the examples they had in the presentation about the UAE Blocked pages in the internet, that character is totally for Emarits people.
here in KSA saudi designers try their best to come up with local designs that matches the culture and only works here not anywhere else, all of that because they want to Strengthens the traditions throughout the Design.

my opinion about ( The weaving of design and community )

the presentation talks about designing for community and for the public needs. this topic is internationally needed.nowadays, many advertisements and designs are trying to make their ways to consumers more thoroughly. Consumers have become more concerned about important issues in this world that are selfless! This kind of thinking is promoted more throughout movies, or maybe the tons of depressing news we hear everyday or by any other means.
here in Jeddah the community service in general is required from all ages, in schools colleges and companies. so designers are more required to design for community and for what the public needs. one of the questions in the end of the presentation made me stop and think a lot , (do you think Saudi Designer would work for free, for his community? , why ? )
for me as a Saudi designer i would do it 100% but of course beside my regular job, i won't leave my job because of course i need to earn money , in the same time ill manage my time to do some community service in Design wise.

my opinion about ( Reality )

knowing exactly the culture and tradition of the country helps a lot in designing and branding. the more the designer search and dig deep, the more smart and impressive ideas he gets. in the presentation they covered this topic form a good perspective , showing examples here in KSA that really shows what they are talking about and also showing international examples. the CEO was a good example to show and explain , they have this motto " the brand is the thing" and this is what the presentation is all about.

my opinion about ( Human Values in Commerce )

this was Done by me and my Group , Honestly we were amazed by Sara Little turnbull ! she's really amazing and smart, and she is all what we need to solve our problems with college and projects. she could be my Role model if i had the chance to meet her. this presentation was much easier than the one before ( Brand Name Dropper). we found it interesting because here in jeddah, smart Design and creative projects are becoming really famous . its not really shown maybe but we can see it in some particular places, which is better than 10 years ago that no body was taking the risk to do any crazy ideas in this town.

my opinion about ( Beyond Pro Bono )

Art criticism is responding to and making critical judgments about specific works of art.Critics tend to focus more on modern and contemporary art from cultures art. after researching i found that when initially introduced to art criticism, many people associate negative connotations with the word "criticism." but this is wrong because criticism is not just about negative things, its about both negative and positive points.
in addition, there is
Four levels of formal analyze for critiquing an art work:

1. Description = pure description of the object without value judgments.

2. Analysis = determining what the features suggest and deciding why the artist used such features to convey specific ideas.

3. Interpretation = establishing the broader context for this type of art.

4. Judgment: Judging a piece of work means giving it rank in relation to other works and of course considering a very important aspect of the visual arts; its originality.

in the presentation i don't think they had enough information about Criticism in general they jumped into examples which was really interesting especially the ones about KSA and the photos was really impressive.

my opinion about ( Sustainability )

Sustainability is such a wide topic to talk about, the first time i heard this word was last year we took a course that most of our projects the instructor was focusing on how to design Sustainable Artwork, especially in recycling wise . one of my colleagues did a really interesting project , it was about opening a new store for used wedding dresses, and because girls always want to buy new dress for their wedding and always argue about having a used one, she decided to use the old material of the dress and design it in a whole different Dress with adding some natural materials also to keep it sustainable.
in the presentation they really thought of good sustainable examples , like Blackboard and Blogs.

i saw some intresting and creative recycling examples while searching online.

Amazing Examples of Adaptive Reuse in Architecture (and More Recycled Adaptive Reuse Buildings): Recycling trash into art or furniture is one thing, but buildings are at another scale entirely. Gigantic structures and massive vehicles can be recycled into alternative offices, homes and recreational structures. These adaptive reuse projects span the spectrum from small to large, conventional to uncanny and everything in between.

Recycled Material Used in Furniture Design and Construction: While some of these works could be considered kitsch a number of these are not only functional but also aesthetically compelling. Many recycled furniture designs flaunt their former lives as anything from bicycle tires to bath tubs. Instead of simply going for an ultra-sleek piece of modern hipster furniture, why not try something a bit out of the ordinary that is also good for the environment?

my opinion about ( Reportors without borders)

this topic nowadays is really important, especially with what's happening in the Arab world. Alot of journalists got caught because of what they wrote or spoke on TV and interviews. in my opinion each person has the freedom to say or write what they want but in limits of course. some of them to jail Illegally and some of them deserve what could happen to them because they crossed the borders. the presentation had good examples and they covered the topic really well.

i found this interesting video (Publicis Brussels made a campaign for Reporters Without Borders. it won 3 Cannes Lions 2011! 2 bronze, 1 silver!) it's a creative idea to show what happening in the world from the journalist point of view
